Maktab Classes
Central Masjid Rochdale, formerly known as Idara Taʿleem-ul-Islam, was established in 1974 by the Muslim community of Rochdale to serve the religious, social, and spiritual needs of the community.
The Maktab, being one of the central endeavours of the Masjid, continues to provide structured Islamic guidance and nurturing for the young people of our community. With over 450 pupils and more than 25 trained educators, the Maktab has grown into a vibrant hub of learning, inspiration, tarbiyah, and Islamic development.

Days - The Maktab runs almost inline with the school holidays with a few exceptions during the year

Times - The Maktab has two active sessions to accommodate all pupils.

The Maktab offers Year 1 to Year 10 after which an Advance Class for college and university pupils is available

The following Subjects are taught at the Maktab:
Qā’idah for Year 1 & 2
The Maktab has our own Qā’idah. Qā’idah is only taught to Year 1 & 2 Pupils. Pupils older than Year 1 & 2 will need to be on Qur’ān when registering
Tajwīd
This begins from Year 3 onwards
Qur’ān
Emphasis is placed on correct recital, and thus the no emphasis is placed on completing a Khatm
Memorisation of Sūrah
Students are expected to memorise a wide range of Sūrahs starting from Year 1 to Year 10
Memorisation of Masnūn Du’ā
Students are expected to memorise a wide range of daily Masnūn (prophetic) prayers starting from Year 1 to Year 10
Fiqh
Fiqh deals with the rulings pertaining to worship. Across the span of the Maktab journey, various age-appropriate topics are taught. The initial lessons start with Tahārah (Purity), Salāh, Zakāh, Hajj, Fasting and more.
Sīrah
Sīrah deals with the life of Nabī Muḥammed ﷺ and his companions.
Tārīkh
Tārīkh deals with the history of the various prophets of the past
‘Aqā’id
‘Aqā’id is the fundamental belief system of a believer. Key age-appropriate lessons are taught to embed the correct belief system within our children
Tarbiyah
Alongside the formal subjects above, Tarbiyah based discussions, activities and trips are incorporated into the Maktab system. The aim is nurture proud young Muslims with prophetic character in all spaces

The Maktab does not keep a waiting list.
The Maktab has one Admission day yearly in June. This gives all applicants an fair chance to apply.
Siblings are given priority and the Maktab works on a first come, first serve basis.
The Admission date is released in May of every calendar year.
For 2026/2027 admissions, the Admission day will take place at Castlemere Community Centre from 17:00 to 19:00 on Wednesday 10th June 2026
